monday, monday

my third one at home... it's kind of weird just chillin all alone in the house everyday with my family being gone at work and school. but that will soon end when i start work again this wednesday. yep, it's back to good old barbano's... i really hope i didn't lose too much of the skill i had developed after working there for 13 months. : ) it's only been a 9 month leave or so, so i figure i'll be alright. and no matter what, it's definitely time to start making the money... gotta be able to eat next year! lol... well, this is short again, but there's not a whole lot to talk about right now... maybe one of these days i'll do a nice and long entry - until then, goodbye friends.

what have i been up to?

yikes... it's been a week. it's great being home and i'm currently still unemployed, so i've certainly been enjoying all my time. i've had a couple lovely coffee dates with elaine, went to uw with liz and briggs to see ryan and a bunch of us went to the inn, had lunch with my grandma, and even spent the weekend in centralia! on friday night laura and her boyfriend greg drove up to get me and i finally got to visit laura's hometown. it was a great time... i enjoyed seeing the town, her house, school, and work, spending time with her family and greg, and getting to meet some of her friends. after being with laura every day for a year, i'm going to miss her a lot this summer! so it was fun to hang out again - even though it'd only been a week!! : ) other than that, i really haven't been doing too much besides stuff around the house. but really, it's been so good to just spend time with my family. having not been a part of their daily lives for so long, i'm enjoying being around again. reading to johannah at night or playing with her and helping jordan with spanish homework have been fun. and God's been faithful in providing me opportunities of ways to serve my mom. she does so much, and i'm thankful for the chance to help her out a bit. so yeah... i'm just here chillin... but loving it!

back at home...

yeah, so it's back to good old kent. i got home early saturday evening, brought all my stuff in, and then had a pleasant surprise visit from jason! he came over for awhile and we just talked and had pizza. he'll be leaving for iraq sometime in the next few weeks, so i was really glad to see him again. then yesterday was mother's day... i'm so thankful for my mom - she's an incredible person and is such a blessing to me! we went to church, spent some time as a family, and then went to the gatzes for dinner. it was great to see sarah and catch up some face to face. as far as this week goes, it's so nice i don't have to work quite yet!! i'm going to try and get organized, figure out where exactly i'll be working, and also hang out with people who i haven't been able to see for awhile. ah, it's great to be back home - i defintely love wsu, but a break is needed, for sure. more later, my friends!

wow

my freshman year of college is over... that is crazy!! where did the time go?!? as i sit here alone in my dorm room surrounded by boxes and crates, i cannot help but reflect back upon all that has happened this year. let's see... i came here to wsu last august, and the first thing i did was rush, or sorority recruitment. i joined a house, but ended up dropping it by the end of september or so. it was a good experience, and i'm thankful that i did it, but am so glad that God showed me greek life wasn't what He'd planned for me. another big change came right around the same time... i decided that i was going to switch my major. ever since junior high i had planned on being an interior designer, but as i began id and architecture classes here, i realized it wasn't exactly what i wanted to do. even though major changes are quite typical, it was a very difficult decision for me to make, because for so long interior design was the only thing i'd pictured for my future. it was during this time that God revealed to me my lack of trust in Him. He was calling me to hand myself over to Him. to no longer worry and fret about the future - to just trust! during all this, God richly blessed me by giving me a special friend - laura. she and i met sort of randomly, and ended up growing very close very quickly. it was a great encouragement to have someone to talk to and spend time with as i was struggling a bit with all the previously mentioned experiences. other new friends were made, some even being people i'd gone to high school with but hadn't ever gotten to know. and a friendship that had basically ceased was restored - peter and i got to know each other again, which i'm so grateful for! sometime in october i began having many conversations with a new friend named jason. he was very intriguing to me, and i really enjoyed talking with him. despite the fact i allowed myself to become more emotionally attached to him than i should have, i am deeply thankful for the way God used jason to help me see areas in my life that needed changing. i suppose that about wraps up the main events of first semester... after christmas break, it was back to wsu... but with a new roommate in a new dorm. laura and i both felt we needed to leave goldsworthy, so we decided to move in together in stephenson. this proved to be a good choice - we had some amazing times being roomies! classes second semester were turning out to be much more enjoyable, and i started on the track of my new major - communication with a public relations emphasis. yet, halfway through my com course i realized pr was not what i wanted to do either. no offense to pr people by any means, but i became aware pretty quickly that life as a "spin doctor" wasn't going to work for me! thankfully, i was taking psychology also, and with one more major change i am now very excited about going into psych. we'll see what exactly i do with the degree... right now i'm considering high school counseling. throughout the semester, God faithfully continued to work in my heart, teaching me many things and revealing Himself to me in unique ways. and after first semester He had led some friends of mine to places other than college... but brought new ones into my life, like brandon! oh, and many good times were had this semester, for sure. "piercing day" with laura, a road trip to yakima, so many movie nights, and the styling of pjo's hair to list just a few. ah yes, it's been quite a year... and i am overwhelmed by the love, grace, and patience God has shown me through it.

God is so good

in the midst of finals week, i do find myself pretty tired this evening, and it's not even late. sadly, i've only taken one test so far... wish i didn't have 4 more to take... ah, but it is all part of the game. today i spent almost the entire day studying - just a couple of short breaks, yet i am content with the result. i feel adequately prepared for the time being, so that is great. the truly wonderful thing is, however, that despite my "good effort" or whatever you want to call it, the real reason for this current state of well being can be completely attributed to God. yesterday i realized my attitude toward this week was horribly wrong - i was dreading all the work i had to do, wanting to "just be done," and basically was being a jerk. then God patiently and lovingly nudged me, whispering, "jessi... what have we been working on? your goal has been to embrace each day, not to waste them. and working hard to perform well on your finals is an opportunity I'm giving you to be obedient to Me." so, after being rather upset with myself, i sat down and took a few moments to pray and ask God to really help me this week. that He'd give me motivation and diligence. that i'd seek ways to be a blessing to others. that i would take the days one at a time and be thankful for each of them, for they mark the end of an amazing, growth-filled year... where i learned so, so much (more so out of the classroom, mind you... lol). anyway, i am truly grateful for the way God's revealing to me that He is working in me this week. what a blessing! i again am taken aback by His abundant love and mercy. what an incredible God we have!!
