surprise, surprise

oh, and it was! i went home to kent this weekend and didn't tell anyone i was coming. you could call peoples' reactions ones of surprise, but utter shock might describe them a bit better. i guess it was wednesday night when laura and i decided we were going to head home despite the chance of slightly risky pass conditions... and i just thought it'd be kind of fun to not let anyone know... but i doubt i'll do it again. things just work better when visits are planned. but anyway, the weekend managed to work out fairly well once we got there.

hmmm... yeah, maybe we should have known better since the trip itself began rather unpromisingly. first off, my car died in the middle of the road while we were still in pullman! i got it to start again really quickly, but still. then we experienced a few "near-death" (or at least it felt like it) situations as we approached snoqualmie. heavy sleet, standing water, windshield wipers that were basically nonexistent, and crazy semi drivers - all in the dark - didn't really give us much visibility. we made it out alive, thankfully. um, right, so... friday night was fun... i showed up at eric's work to let him know i was home, hung out for a bit with cool pals ryan and alex as they too were home visiting, and then went home to surprise (or truly frighten) the family!

saturday was weird in the sense that jordan had to go to emergency room for several hours... poor guy. they thought perhaps he has mono, but so far the tests have come back negative - hopefully things will stay that way... no fun. later i went to southcenter for 3 hours all by myself which is sort of strange, but it was cool. spent too much money though! bad jess. i stopped in to say hello to my grandma, got to meet jordan's girlfriend tori's mom as they came over to visit the "invalid," and then went to applebee's with eric. where - just because it's interesting to mention - dan jeremiah is working these days but going by his first name, james. i felt rather silly when he came to our table with a name tag reading "james" after i had said "hey dan" somewhat loudly from across the way. oh well, who could have known, right?

today (sunday) was quick. because of jordan being sick and everyone being somewhat exhausted we didn't attend church and just hung around for awhile. right before i left eric and i went to best buy and laughed at songs from the old days on greatest hits albums... like boyz II men's motownphilly. then on my way out of town, i also got to say a quick hello to sarah as she had come home late saturday night. it's quite fun so many people were home this weekend! yep, the rest of the day was spent getting back over here to good old pullman. there was snow on the pass today, but even still it was much better than friday night. in othello we had more adventures as we had to put oil in my car since i guess long trips just burn it up. basically we had to borrow a hammer from inside the shell station to get my oil cap back on... how sad is that? then the last stretch my car decided it really wasn't going to go much over 50 mph except of course when we were going down a hill where it reached 85 easily. it's always something with my car... that's for sure. definitely has a mind of its own. not so dependable... ya know? we made it though, eventually... only to arrive and find out the patriots had won the superbowl... how disappointing.

another weekend at home under wraps... i've been home every other weekend so far this semester which really has been lovely. but that's the end of that though, since between laura and i we're having guests here for the next 3 weekends. woo hoo - something good to look forward to here in pullman for a change - hey, that's something to be excited about!

well, now it's late and i'm very much ready for bed... so that is where i'm going to go. hope my randomness and the events of the "surprise weekend" weren't as boring to read as i sort of fear they were. ha ha. at least i'm updating! : )
